This decision has not been made lightly. Although a large accumulation of snow is not anticipated, the timing of the storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions if we follow our regular dismissal schedule.
Weather reports indicate that roads will become increasingly difficult for our buses, first in the hilltowns and then in the lower elevations. The heaviest snowfall is projected to occur around our regular dismissal time, followed by freezing rain around the time when buses would typically be dropping students off after school.
After consulting with our transportation director, as well as local town and county highway departments, and carefully reviewing the projected timing of the storm, the safest course of action for us is to dismiss students early today.
We understand that early dismissals are challenging for parents and families, and we do not make this decision without considering that impact. However, the safety of our students and staff remains paramount. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work to ensure everyone arrives home safely.
