spanish class lesson

Mr. Pinder is finding new and fun ways for his students to learn Spanish. Last week, they learned their colors, numbers, animals, and how to ask/respond to common questions.

Before they start class, students find their seats by matching the Spanish word for a specific animal with a sticker of that animal already placed on a desk. This helps get students used to following posted instructions and using their resources, like available information, to complete a task.

While learning about animal sounds, students learned that Spanish speakers even have different words to describe animal sounds. Mr. Pinder demonstrates these sounds to the class, and they have to guess which animal sound he's making. He'll ask the class questions like, “¿Cuál de estos animales dice: «guau guau»?” This means, “Which of these animals says ‘bark bark’?” Whoever is first to identify the correct image of the dog barking on the smartboard wins.

Students are also learning to ask each other common questions with a fortune teller game. Individually, they identified colors in Spanish to decorate the papers that Mr. Pinder provided them and then cut and folded them into Origami Fortune Tellers. Then, they fill in the who/what/when/where/why questions to ask their classmates. Together, they begin to answer simple questions in Spanish.

Thank you, Mr. Pinder, for reminding students that they can have fun AND learn!
