The Middle School has a few tips to help students stay organized at home.
Turn off personal electronics and turn on your thinking power!
You can’t do your best thinking when your personal electronics are distracting you from your work.
Turning off your electronics is the biggest favor you can do…for YOURSELF!
Choose a comfortable spot to complete schoolwork.
Select an area separate from where you play or sleep, if possible.
Designate the area only for schoolwork to help stay focused.
Set a time EVERY DAY to complete schoolwork and to study.
Pick a 30-60 minute block of time when you’re most alert. You may need more time, depending on your classes.
Study in short bursts (20 - 30 minutes each). Then, take a short break (get a drink, stretch, eat a healthy snack, etc.) and get back to work.
Studying daily is the mental workout that keeps you on top of your game.
Build a routine. Whether you prefer to get your homework done right after school or after dinner, choose a time and make the most of it.
Music is okay, but only at a low level in the background.
Gather Your Equipment
Keep your supplies (Chromebook, binders, folders, books, pencils) in one place, like your backpack.
Keep paper and digital materials organized.
Don’t throw away any classwork until the course ends or your teacher says it’s okay. Use your notes, returned assignments, quizzes, and other papers to review before tests.
Find a Study Buddy
Exchange contact information with a classmate.
Get in touch for clarification of notes or assignments.
Wrap Up Your Schoolwork
Charge your Chromebook EVERY evening.
Review the next days schedule, and pack your backpack when with everything you need. Don’t forget your notebooks, folders, binders, books, pencils, and other supplies!
Leave your packed backpack and charged Chromebook/charger in a place to quickly grab it in the morning.
