evacuate

2:45pm
I wanted to take a minute to follow up about today’s unplanned evacuation.

At approximately 1:30pm, the middle and high schools were evacuated due to a fire alarm activation. Administrators quickly determined that a student had pulled the alarm, and there was no emergency. In accordance with our procedures, the fire department responded and cleared the building.

Situations like this are unacceptable. We are taking this very seriously, and the student involved will face appropriate consequences.

In addition to the classroom disruptions caused by the alarm, a small number of high school students were taking IB Exams at the time of the evacuation. After consulting with IB, it was determined that students will receive additional time at the end of their exam to compensate for the time spent evacuating.

Although this was not a drill or a real emergency, I appreciate our students, faculty, and staff for responding seriously and following all emergency procedures.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you,
Todd Hilgendorff
Interim Superintendent

The building has been cleared. Students, faculty, and staff are returning to their buildings. Dismissal will take place as usual today.

1:27pm
The middle and high school students, faculty, and staff are being evacuated due to a fire alarm going off.

An evacuation takes place when conditions make it unsafe for students and staff to remain in the building. This action provides for the orderly movement of students and staff along prescribed routes from inside school buildings to a designated outside area of safety.

We urge parents and other visitors to avoid calling or coming to the school at this point in time. This allows us to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all. Please remember that safety is our top priority.

We will update this page with more information at 1:40pm.

Sincerely,
Todd Hilgendorff
Interim Superintendent
