February 11, 2022

Dear Families,

It has been wonderful to be in school with great weather this week. Everyone certainly enjoyed being able to play outdoors for several days! Please remind children that they must have full snow gear to play in the snowy areas of the playground. Students without snow pants and boots will continue to play on the blacktop areas.

Last week we celebrated 2.2.22 as “Math Day!”  During the day we learned some new math games with Mrs. Caputi and Ms. Schrader. These math activities are part of a series of games that we play in our classrooms. We hope you hear your children talk about “Tangy Tuesday” and “Wordy Wednesday” at home, as we try to help students become strong math thinkers and problem solvers.

This coming week we have two special events for our students.  First, many classes are celebrating Valentine's Day.  Also, our younger students will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Tuesday.  Please check with your child’s teacher for information about specific activities that will be happening in their classrooms.

Congratulations to one of our third-grade students, Raul Pagan.  Raul was selected as the winner of a state-wide poster contest, sponsored by the New York Apple Association. In addition to the statewide recognition, Raul received a gift certificate for himself and a gift certificate for our school. Raul chose to use the school award to purchase supplies that children could use in Physical Education and at recess. Congratulations Raul!

As a reminder, school will be closed for Winter Recess from February 21-25. Students and staff will return to school on Monday, February 28. Prior to our return, all students and staff have been asked to complete a covid test on Sunday, February 27. We will be distributing COVID test kits to families during the week of February 14. Please see the letter from our Superintendent for additional details.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Peter Mahan, Elementary Principal
