Clothes
Students are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for physical activity such as athletic shorts, skorts, sweatpants, wind pants, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts and hats, sweaters/jackets if needed. Students may not wear dresses, skirts, spaghetti straps, as well as scarves, gloves and hats inside. Students are encouraged to keep an extra sweatshirt available in their school storage space (locker, cubby etc.).
Footwear
Students must wear sneakers and socks for physical education. The sneaker must be secured to the foot. Laces are strongly encouraged. Examples of inappropriate footwear are: Hiking boots, heels, crocs, flip-flops, snow boots, rain boots, sandals, and sneakers without a back. If the grass is damp or has dew on it, we almost always go outside. Students are encouraged to keep an extra pair of sneakers and/or socks at school to change into if needed.
Jewelry
For the student and their classmates’ safety, jewelry must be removed prior to physical education. Examples of unsafe jewelry include: Metal hair items, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and watches. If a student has recently had their ears pierced, tape will be provided so they may tape their ears.
If a student has a medical excuse from a parent or physician, they should show their classroom teacher when they arrive at school. The student will then bring the note to the school nurses. The nurses will communicate the excuse to the student’s physical education teacher. Students unable to participate in physical education are also unable to physically participate in recess. A parent/guardian may excuse their child for a maximum of 3 days. After the 3 days a Doctor’s note is required.
