Greenville CSD - where everyone Learns, Teaches, Belongs!  Spartan STRONG!

Dear Families,

We had an exciting week with our new and returning students. We are especially proud of all the learning that was accomplished by our youngest learners!  While we had a busy week at school, we know some of our students celebrated family holidays; “Shana Tova” to those who celebrated the Jewish New Year!

The opening days (and weeks) of school are spent learning HOW we will learn at school. For example; Kindergarten students practiced how to listen to each other as they shared their great thinking, second graders read stories about feeling nervous and excited at the beginning of the school year (while being introduced to lessons about adjectives and nouns), and fifth-grade students practiced how to correctly complete math homework tasks.  During the coming weeks classroom teachers will be explicit as they teach students how to successfully engage in the routines, and practices that students will use each day: being explicit will increase students’ success - that’s smart!

Today we had a moment of silence in advance of the 20th anniversary of September 11.  We discussed that 9-11 was a day of great tragedy, but it was also a day when everyday Americans became heroes!  We had a moment of silence, and then we said the Pledge of Allegiance together. It was a simple, but important reminder of our experience as Americans.  We will begin practicing our safety drills next week.

Coming Soon:

We have a series of student assemblies scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16. Students will attend a concert by AudioBody: Electric Circus. The music and visual aspects of the show will be exciting, but the assembly will also reinforce lessons about being a good friend at school.

Open House for grades 3-5 is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 pm. Parents can attend the (virtual) Open House via Google. More information will be sent to parents at the beginning of next week. The (virtual) Open House for grades 1 and 2 will be held on September 23.

Enjoy your weekend with your family and friends,

Peter Mahan
