Watch Mr. Urban's Update!
I'm coming to you from one of the first grade classrooms at Ellis Elementary, where I'm standing in the hard corner.
What's the "hard corner," you ask? It's out of the line of sight from the hallway. We call this the hard corner in a lockdown drill situation. It's the area of the classroom where the kids go to stay safe and out of the line of sight from an intruder in the building.
Why am I telling you this? Well, we're going to have our first lockdown drill this week at Ellis. We don't normally share this level of detail with parents for each drill that we do, but because it's the first one, and especially for those who may be new to Ellis, we want to make sure we're being as upfront as possible with all of the resources we have so that you feel your child is safe here at school. Drills are always announced in the Spartan Snapshot the week before they are scheduled to take place.
Here is a safety video that Mr. Bennett shared last year. It explains all five of our emergency responses, and how they work here at Greenville. You can watch it with your child to review the drills.
We always do a great job at these drills, and our kids especially do a great job of taking these drills seriously. We will continue to do so here at Elli and will share more with you as more resources become available. Ffor the time being, I highly recommend checking out the resources we have on our safety webpage.
