9:00am in the MS/HS Auditorium

Dear 5th Grade Families,

As you know, 5th Grade Advancement is next week. Due to the predicted heat wave, we’re making two changes:

  • The ceremony will now be in the air-conditioned MS/HS Auditorium.

  • The ceremony will start at 9:00am, instead of 8:30am.

    • This will allow us to accommodate Regents exams, middle school lunches, student arrival times, and other considerations.

Timeline

  • 8:15am - parking lots open for guests

  • 8:30am - MS/HS doors open

  • 9:00am - ceremony begins

  • 10:00am - ceremony concludes and all guests exit the building

Seating
Seating is limited to five guests per student. There is no reserved seating.

Parking
Parking is limited, carpooling is highly encouraged.

  • MS/HS Parking Options: Lots 4 and 5 will open at 8:15am for guests. These lots will be closed before 8:15am for MS/HS student arrivals.

  • ES Parking Option: Lot 1 (North Lot) will open at 8:15am for guest parking. Guests can take the walking path to the high school and enter through the back door, where a staff member will be stationed.

Siblings
Younger students will stay with their class at the elementary school.

Reception
Guests can take the walking path to the Ellis Pavilion for refreshments after the ceremony. The event typically lasts 45 minutes.

Morning Drop Off
5th grade students should be dropped off at the elementary school as usual. They will parade to the MS/HS with their class (this will be streamed on the screen in the auditorium). 5th grade students SHOULD NOT be dropped off at the MS/HS.

Early Dismissal
Students may be signed out for the day with their teacher after the ceremony. All sign-outs will take place in the pavilion. Students can not be signed out from the MS/HS. Please submit a bus note to your teacher if you plan on signing your student out.

Attire
Age-appropriate, dressy-casual outfits (e.g., khakis, dress shorts, skirts, or dresses). Safe footwear for walking on stairs. Attire that is not appropriate for the occasion includes: T-shirts, tank tops, jeans, or jean shorts, high heels, clogs, or flip-flops (unsafe on stairs).

We understand this is a change from our original plan, however, we are confident that these changes will make the ceremony far more comfortable for our students, staff, and guests.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks,
Matt Urban
Elementary School Principal
