Welcome back! I hope you had a productive and exciting first few days of school. As we get into the swing of things, I wanted to share a few safety reminders that you may find helpful.
Safety Night September 24th
Our annual School Safety Night will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 5:00pm until 5:45pm in the MS/HS Library Media Center. This is an opportunity for parents, students, and families to learn more about our safety protocols and ask questions during a presentation and Q&A session. Although this is hosted at the middle and high school, it’s geared towards families of all students!
Emergency Procedures
Across New York State schools, there are five standard emergency responses to any emergency: Hold, Secure Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. This resource will help you become familiar with these terms and what each one means. Throughout the year, we will have a number of drills to practice the Standard Response Protocols. These drills will always be announced in the Spartan Snapshot the week before they are scheduled. Additionally, lockdown drills will be announced on the loudspeaker, directly before the drill begins.
Visitor Management
Last year, we updated our visitor management system to cross-check even more databases and sync directly with our Student Information System to notify our attendance clerks of custody-related alerts. As a reminder, all visitors will be asked to present identification during their first visit of the school year. You may be asked to present identification at any visit.
Bus Safety Drill
We have a bus safety drill scheduled after school on Tuesday, September 15th. For those who ride the bus after school, drop-off times will be delayed by 10-15 minutes. The bus safety drill does not impact parent pickup.
Social Media Trend
We are aware of a recent social media trend involving AI-generated or digitally altered images of the “Cat in the Hat” in unsettling situations, sometimes referencing specific schools, buildings, or individuals. There have been no references to Greenville Central School District buildings or threats to our school. We are actively monitoring social media, in partnership with Questar III, to ensure the safety of our schools. Should anything concerning arise, we will communicate that information to you via email.
STOPit
STOPit is an anonymous reporting system that lets students privately share safety concerns with their principals. While we encourage students to share their concerns directly with trusted adults in our school, we know it’s not always easy. That’s where STOPit comes in.
Students can report things like abuse, threats, unsafe or inappropriate behavior, and more. As they say, if you see something, say something. We hope that STOPit makes the “say something” part a little easier for our students. If you’d like to learn more, please visit our website.
Emergency Communications
In the event of an emergency, families will receive an initial notification via text, phone call, and email. We will continue to share timestamped updates with the community throughout the situation. Once the situation is resolved, we will send a message confirming that the Standard Response Protocol has been lifted. When appropriate, a follow-up message may be shared to provide additional details.
If you have specific questions while the District is experiencing an emergency, our School Communications Specialist will, to the best of their ability, monitor messages and respond in a timely manner.
