Dear GCS Community,
We know this week has brought many emotions following Michael Bennett’s announcement that he has accepted an opportunity elsewhere. We join our entire community in wishing him the very best as he begins this next chapter with the New York State Education Department.
With his departure comes other emotions - sadness at the loss of a fantastic leader and apprehension about what is to come.
Please know that the Board of Education remains committed to continuing the great work happening in our schools. Selecting the district’s next superintendent is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to us as a board, and we approach this work with great care and a strong sense of responsibility to our community.
The process to hire a superintendent involves many steps, moving parts, and decisions. New York State Open Meetings Laws govern how we, as a group, can meet and discuss matters. While these requirements are important for ensuring fairness and proper governance, they can sometimes limit how quickly information can be shared. With that said, we hope that you will have patience and understanding when it feels like we aren't getting information out immediately.
As a group, we are united in our commitment to a transparent and inclusive process. We will share more information as soon as we can.
