Dear Greenville Community,
In a few short weeks, we’ll be welcoming everyone back to campus. Over the past few months, our leadership team has been busy working to bring our District into compliance with New York State’s new Distraction-Free school mandate. Before school begins, I wanted to share a bit about what that will look like for Greenville.
The New Cell Phone Policy
The full policy is on the cell phone page of our website. However, to summarize, all students must turn off and put their Personal Internet-Connected Devices away from the beginning of the school day until dismissal. This includes during lunch, recess, passing times, and in spaces like restrooms and locker rooms.
Ensuring Compliance
At the elementary school, students will be asked to keep their devices “off and away.” At the middle and high schools, the District will provide lockable pouches for each student to secure their devices, while still keeping them in their possession.
Questions
I’ve received many questions about what this implementation will look like. So, we’ve put together an extensive list of questions and answers that are available on our website.
If you have questions about this policy, please fill out this form. We will be monitoring responses and addressing them in the next communication about this topic.
We will use the next few weeks to work through the logistical challenges of implementing this new policy and will provide more detailed information before school begins.
Thank you,
Michael Bennett
Superintendent of Schools
